Nitecore solves problem nobody had with their “World’s First Smart Battery” for Sony mirrorless cameras

Nitecore has announced its “World’s First Smart Battery” for Sony, the Nitecore NFZ100. It’s a drop-in replacement for the Sony NP-FZ100 used in the Sony A7 III, A7R III, A7R IV and A9 mirrorless cameras. At least, it is if Sony doesn’t make 3rd party batteries impossibly impractical to use again.

As a “Smart” device, the new Nitecore Smart Battery talks to an app on your phone; Nitecore NNERGY. The app will be available for both iOS and Android and lets you monitor the battery health and other details wirelessly. Obviously, it needs power to do this, and I’m not sure a battery that drains itself is necessarily a great idea.

Eye-tracking autofocus on Sony a9 is pretty impressive, here’s how it works

We’ve already seen some of Sony a9’s impressive features in action. We’ve showed you how it focuses and shoots at 20 fps, and now there’s a video that shows its capability of eye-tracking autofocus. It’s pretty accurate and fast, and you can see it work on a person who moves, blinks, turns his head and more. Take a look.

Sony’s new FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS lens looks perfectly suited to the A9

Well, if Sony are introducing a new Alpha A9 camera aimed at sports and wildlife shooters, you just know they’re going to announce a lens to go with it. And that they have, with the new FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6GM OSS lens.

It’s a full frame lens, featuring a double linear motor and Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor to keep it quick, accurate and quiet. Advantageous for both sports, wildlife, and video shooting. Sony claim it has “corner to corner” sharpness. Although, on a variable aperture zoom, I’ll wait until I can see the results for myself.

Sony announces the new A9 full frame mirrorless camera with 24MP sensor, 20fps blackout-free burst and 4K video

Well, it was expected that Sony would be announcing something either at or in the run up to NAB, and now we know what it is. No, they haven’t confirmed that their truck was stolen, but they have announced a new camera. That camera is the new Sony Alpha A9; a 24MP mirrorless beast of a sports shooter.

It features a Blackout-free 20fps continuous burst mode, 693 AF points with 93% coverage and a 1280×960 QVGA resolution EVF running at 120fps. And that shutter is completely silent and vibration free, making it ideal for wildlife photography, too.

Rumor Has It Sony And Nikon Will Also Produce 50MP Cameras

We have previously reported about Sony’s upcoming high-megapixel sensor. The sensor was said to pack a whopping 46MP, but would still fall behind Canon’s rumored 53MP beast.

Sony Alpha Rumors now reports that according to a “long time source”, the upcoming Sony a7RII will also enter the 50MP club.
