We’re always looking out for good deals at DIYP, as I imagine most of you reading this are, too. Well, Sony’s announced its “Step Up To Sony” sales event, with some pretty heavy discounts of up to $1,000 on their most popular bodies, including the Sony A7II, A7RII, A7RIII and A9.

The Sony A7II & 28-70mm kit is currently on massive discount at B&H. They’ve dropped the price from the A7II kit’s regular $1,598 down to a mere $998. That’s almost a 40% discount. But it’s not just the camer and lens. The kit also comes with a 32GB 90MB/sec SanDisk Extreme memory card, a spare battery and an external charger.

Sony releases firmware to address the A9 overheating issue, and a bunch of other bugs

Shortly after releasing a bunch of software updates for their cameras and lenses, Sony releases some more to fix some of the reported problems. There are now firmware updates for six of their cameras: A9, A7rII, A7sII, A7II, A6500, and A6300. They are aimed at fixing the overheating issue that was recently reported, as well as the so-called “Star Eater” issue.

I had the rare pleasure of meeting up with my father this week and on my stop through we came onto the topic of progress. We were sharing ideas of what it was like shooting “back in his day” with a 17year old 3.4MP Fujifilm S1 DSLR vs. my current Sony A7II.

For fun, we decided to whip out the old camera and do a direct comparison with one thing in mind: Image Quality. How far has image quality come in 17 years and what benefits would it provide to most day to day users that are slapping the images straight onto social media anyway?

It’s really not, but I feel like the potential for a flame-war and s–t storm is so great that I have to put on a raincoat just to start laying out the words haha!

That’s right my friends, today I’m going to be talking about the Sony A7ii and why I’ve decided to ditch my entire Canon system (including a 6D & an 85mm 1.2) for a Sony setup with older manual only lenses (though I do have one modern 85mm).

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. His work has been featured in various publications and he has worked with notable brands such as Skoda, EE, Boeing, Huawei, Microsoft, BMW, Conde Nast, Electronic Arts, Discovery, BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, NBC, and many others.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
