Sony Japan finally dumps all A-mount lenses from its online inventory

If Sony hadn’t already made it crystal clear that the A-mount was dead last May when they removed all of their A-mount cameras from their website. Minolta’s legacy has now been pretty much thrown into the abyss.

It’s not too terribly surprising, really. The A-mount was created by Minolta way back in 1985. It was inherited by Sony during their acquisition of Minolta in 2006 and they haven’t released an A-mount body since 2016. E mount is most definitely the future of Sony – especially now Sony finally has an E mount flagship body in the form of the Sony A1.

It looks like Sony’s finally killed off the A-mount camera system

Sony’s A-mount – or, to be more accurate, what was originally Minolta’s A mount – finally seems to have been killed off. As spotted by Sony Alpha Rumors, Sony has removed all of their A-mount DSLR and DSLT camera from their product database on the Sony website. Retailers around the world are also now showing Sony A-Mount cameras as “No longer available”.

It’s not an entirely unexpected turn of events, however. Sony’s gone full-on into its E mount line, and now that they’ve released an actual flagship mirrorless camera with the Sony A1, their lineup is pretty much complete and there’s really no need to hang on to those old legacy products anymore.

Sony α68 A-Mount Camera Leaked Announcement and Specs

In what we suspect to be a leaked announcement ahead of Sony’s “Surprise” event in Sweden tomorrow, Sony Alpha Rumors posted the full specs and press release of the α68.

The new camera inherited many features from the more advanced α77 II, such as 4D FOCUS, and is aimed at newcomers to advanced amateurs.

The camera will be available from March 2016, but will this be Sony’s last A-mount camera?

Alex Baker is a portrait and lifestyle driven photographer based in Valencia, Spain. She works on a range of projects from commercial to fine art and has had work featured in publications such as The Daily Mail, Conde Nast Traveller and El Mundo, and has exhibited work across Europe

Dave Williams is an accomplished travel photographer, writer, and best-selling author from the UK. He is also a photography educator and published Aurora expert. Dave has traveled extensively in recent years, capturing stunning images from around the world in a modified van. His work has been featured in various publications and he has worked with notable brands such as Skoda, EE, Boeing, Huawei, Microsoft, BMW, Conde Nast, Electronic Arts, Discovery, BBC, The Guardian, ESPN, NBC, and many others.

John Aldred is a photographer with over 20 years of experience in the portrait and commercial worlds. He is based in Scotland and has been an early adopter - and occasional beta tester - of almost every digital imaging technology in that time. As well as his creative visual work, John uses 3D printing, electronics and programming to create his own photography and filmmaking tools and consults for a number of brands across the industry.

Dunja Djudjic is a multi-talented artist based in Novi Sad, Serbia. With 15 years of experience as a photographer, she specializes in capturing the beauty of nature, travel, and fine art. In addition to her photography, Dunja also expresses her creativity through writing, embroidery, and jewelry making.
