Is TTArtisan’s new 35mm F0.95 lens the Noctilux for Fujifilm X-mount?

After releasing their first autofocus lens for Fujifilm X-mount, the TTArtisan 27mm ƒ2.8 (review here), TTArtisan is here again with a pleasant surprise in its yet latest release. Announced last week, the TTArtisan 35mm ƒ0.95 seeks to break new boundaries for Fujifilm X-mount. For Fujifilm native lenses, there are currently no lenses of this spec with the closest in terms of maximum aperture size, the classic XF35mm ƒ1.4, and of course, the more modern XF33mm ƒ1.4 (review here).

I was pleasantly surprised that TTArtisan has designed and built a lens of these specifications smaller than the already compact native XF35mm ƒ1.4. Let us take a closer look at the technical details before going into how it performs.

TTArtisan has launched the 35mm f/0.95, a cheap, lightweight, ultra-fast lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras. It comes in six different mounts, and if you’ve wanted to try out a fast lens like this, it could be a great choice because it’s the cheapest one there is.

Laowa’s new Argus 35mm f/0.95 is the widest aperture full-frame 35mm lens in the world

Venus Optics has just announced the new Laowa Argus 35mm f/0.95 full-frame lens for Sony E, Nikon Z and Canon RF mounts. Laowa says that it’s the fastest full-frame 35mm lens in the world and the first offer an f0.95 aperture. It provides a 63.4° field of view with “extraordinary shallow depth of field and creamy bokeh”. For the video shooters, they say it provides a long throw on the focus wheel and the aperture can run either clicked or declicked with the flick of a switch.

Photographer Richard Wong has managed to get his hands on one for a bit of a play and has put a video together going over its features and showing off some sample photos shot with it using the Nikon Z6. For the filmmakers, though, it looks like it might have a little more focus breathing than some of you would like. There isn’t a massive amount of focus breathing, but it’s noticeable.

I’m not entirely sure what’s going on with these new Laowa Argus lenses from Venus Optics, but they’ve either now officially announced their first lenses in the Laowa Argus f/0.95 lens lineup, or the information’s just leaked (as it does). Or a mix of both. I’ve yet to see an actual press release, although different websites seem to variously report their existence as either an official announcement or a leak.

Anyway, these are reportedly the images of Laowa’s upcoming Argus 25mm f/0.95 MFT lens, 33mm f/0.95 APS-C mirrorless lens and their 35mm f/0.95 and 45mm f/0.95 full-frame mirrorless lenses, along with some specs. Here’s what we know so far…
