Well, that didn’t take long. First rumoured over a year ago and with news yesterday that announcements were imminent, Canon has now today officially unveiled the new Canon RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM and Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM lenses. Both of the new lenses are full-frame lenses designed for the Canon RF system.

The Canon RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM is a fairly compact lens with ultra-wide-angle versatility. While possessing a fairly slow variable aperture, it’s ideal for things like landscapes, architecture and similar subjects. The Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM is also pretty compact, allowing you to get close to your subjects while providing environmental context and a deeper depth of field than with telephoto macro lenses.

Canon expected to announce new RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS and 24mm f/1.8 IS Macro lenses this week

It looks like Canon is about to announce a couple of new lenses according to a couple of reports from Asobinet and Photo Rumors. Both of the lenses are RF mount lenses and it appears as though they’ll be full-frame lenses, given that they’re specifically named “RF” and not “RF-S”. One is an ultra-wide-angle 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM zoom while the other is the fast 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM.

It’s been over a year since either of these lenses were first rumoured but now it seems like the announcement may be imminent. Tomorrow, in fact, according to a post on Photo Rumors. Other than the names, though, there’s no other information on these lenses at all. Not even leaked photos.

Historically known more for its lens adapters and accessories, Viltrox has been branching out into budget lenses the last few years and they’ve released a mix of manual and autofocus lenses for a number of systems, including a couple for Z-Mount already, including a 20mm f/1.8 manual focus and 85mm f/1.8 autofocus prime lenses.

Now it seems they’re about to release six more lenses for the Nikon Z mirrorless system. All of them are autofocus. Three of them will be for APS-C format and three of them will be full-frame. The six new lenses were on display at the China International Photographic Equipment and Technology Fair (China P&E) in Beijing, China. Interestingly, none of them appeared on the Viltrox lens roadmap published last year.

Samyang has officially announced the new Samyang AF 24mm F1.8 FE lens for Sony E mount full-frame mirrorless. It’s the latest addition to their “Tiny Series” lens lineup and as the name suggests, it offers a 24mm field of view with a wide f/1.8 aperture. It weights only 230g and measures only 71mm from front to back, but this is an autofocus lens, not manual.

The lens features a new “Custom Mode” with an LED indicator designed for photography. The “Custom Mode” can be activated through a new Focus Hold button, which allows you to directly focus the lens straight to infinity – and you can tune it to make sure it hits that mark consistently, every time.
