Which lens is right for your Milky Way photos? Watch this 20-28mm f/1.4 shootout to find out

Last week, Sigma announced two new 20mm f/1.4 DG DN and 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art series lenses. While the latter was also targeted towards photographers in general, both have a heavy lean toward astrophotography. But how well do they really perform? In this video, Nico at Nebula Photos puts seven 20-28mm prime lenses to the test including the two new Sigma lenses to try to figure that out.

As well as the two new Sigma lenses for mirrorless cameras, he also includes Sigma’s predecessors, designed for DSLRs, as well as others from Rokinon (Samyang) and Zeiss. It’s a pretty in-depth comparison, running a hair under 40 minutes, but includes a lot of detail in each lens with some fantastic comparisons of all seven lenses shot side-by-side using the Sigma fp L mirrorless camera.

Sigma has officially announced the 20mm f/1.4 and 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art lenses for E and L mount

Sigma has officially announced the two newest lenses in their Global Vision Lenses lineup for Sony E Mount and Leica L mount. As expected, they’re the Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art and the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art series lenses. Both lenses are primarily aimed at astrophotographers, although the 24mm is also targeted towards general photography use.

Both lenses come with some features advantageous to astrophotographers, with the introduction of a manual focus lock and a rear filter holder as well as front filter threads. The 20mm f/1.4 DG DN also comes with a “Lens Heater Retailer” to “keep this useful astrophotography weather accessory firmly in place while in use”. The lenses were announced during today’s Sigma Stage event.

Images leak of Sigma’s upcoming 20mm f/1.4 and 24mm f/1.4 lenses ahead of today’s announcement

Images of new Sigma lenses leaking ahead of an official announcement are as inevitable as Thanos. Sigma has a new products presentation live stream planned for later today (in about 3 hours from now) where it’s expected that they’ll announce the new Sigma 20mm f/1.4 DG DN Art and 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art series lenses. The basic specs leaked last week and now we’re getting to have a look at them.

As well as the images, there are also a few new bits of information, including expected shipping dates and a Japan price for the 24mm. There’s no word yet on what they’ll cost in the rest of the world, but I’m sure that information will be coming later today during the official announcement. Sigma to announce two new 20mm and 24mm f/1.4 full-frame mirrorless lenses on August 8th

Sigma has scheduled a “New Products Presentation” on their YouTube channel for August 8th at 21:00 Japan Standard time – which is 1pm UK time, 8am Eastern and 5am Pacific on the same date. Sigma hasn’t said what they’re expected to announce or how long it’ll take but it’s expected to be two new 20mm f/1.4 DG DN and 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art series lenses.

We know by the designations in the leaked specs that they’re full-frame lenses, and according to leaked specs, both will be available for full-frame Sony E mount cameras. The leaked specs don’t specify that there’s an L mount version coming, they do list a separate “E-Mount version” for some specs, suggesting that will also come in L mount flavour.

Leaked photos and video show the first “OM System” branded gear is the M.Zuiko 20mm f/1.4 Pro

The change of brand from Olympus to OM System was announced just over a week ago. We were told that new items would start to pop up with the new branding and that existing items would transition over from Olympus branding to OM System branding as old stocks dwindled and new ones were being made. So, we’d still see the Olympus name for a little while.

Now, though, leaked photos and a leaked video show the first new piece of kit with the OM System branding. And it’ll be the OM System M.Zuiko Digital ED 20mm F1.4 Pro lens for Micro Four Thirds – a lens added to the Olympus roadmap last September.

Sigma announces NINE new native Sony E-Mount Art series lenses

As if Sigma hadn’t given us enough today. With new 70mm f/2.8 Macro and 105mm f/1.4 Art series lenses, we were already pretty excited. But Sigma also have an extra gift for Sony shooters. Both of the two new lenses today, as well as nine of their popular Art series full frame lenses are being released with a native Sony E-Mount.

A native Sony mount offers advantages over simply using the Canon mount version with the Sigma MC-11 adapter. Such as compatibility with Sony’s continuous (AF-C) and high speed autofocus. And you’ll likely see some Eye-AF improvements, too. Very handy if you’ve been eyeing up that new Sony A7III.

Sigma 20mm f/1.4 Art lens rumored to be announced this Friday

Sigma’s Art lens lineup has become extremely popular, and according to Digicame-info the company is about to add a new lens to the lineup.

Continuing to focus on wide angle lenses, the next lens rumored to be released is the 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, and if true we should see it already this Friday.
