Surprise, surprise: shortly after announcing the 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 lens, Tamron seems to be unable to keep up with the demand. The shipping of the lens has been delayed, and the company doesn’t know when exactly it will start shipping it again.
Tamron launches the 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 APS-C lens for Sony a month ahead of expectations
Well, either the rumours were wrong or Tamron’s hand was forced by all the leaks lately, but they’ve now officially announced the new Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.34 Di III-A VC VXD APS-C mirrorless lens. Initially, it’s available for Sony E mount and it will be coming for Fujifilm X at a future date.
It is possible that the rumoured September 24th announcement date wasn’t entirely inaccurate, though. Today seems to be an announcement and pre-orders opening up. So, it’s possible that September 24th is when it actually starts shipping. At least for the Sony version.
Tamron’s upcoming 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 lens for Fuji X and Sony E to be priced at $699
Tamron’s upcoming 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VX D lens for Sony E and Fuji X mounts, which first saw a development announcement in July is expected to be announced on September 24th (in Sony flavour – Fuji will come later). All the details, along with complete specs have already been leaked. That is to say, all details except the price.
I guessed back in July that it would probably sit somewhere around the $650 mark when comparing to something like Nikon’s 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR and it seems I wasn’t far off. A number of sources including Nokishita are now saying that the new Tamron lens will cost $699. It also looks like B&H has jumped the gun again, by putting up a listing along with all the photos, some marketing speak and a few of the specs.
Tamron 18-300mm APS-C autofocus lens for Sony & Fuji announcement expected September 24th
Tamron’s upcoming 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD autofocus lens for Fuji X and Sony E mount, for which a development announcement was made last month, looks like it might be set for a release announcement next month. September 24th, to be precise, according to a tweet from Nokishita. The tweet says that Tamron has now “released the catalog” of the lens, attached to the tweet as a PDF, which offers up the complete specs.
Tamron’s new 18-300mm is the first 3rd party autofocus zoom lens for Fuji X systems
Since Fuji decided they were opening up their X mount to 3rd party lens manufacturers to be able to make autofocus lenses, we’ve seen a few new releases trickle out from manufacturers like Tokina, Viltrox, Pergear and even Zeiss. But so far (unless I’m mistaken – and I’m sure all the Fuji shooters will correct me in the comments if I am), it seems all those 3rd party autofocus Fuji X mount lenses have been prime lenses.
Well now, Tamron has announced the development of not only its first lens with a Fuji X mount, but the first 3rd party autofocus zoom lens for the Fuji X mount system, the Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A2 VC VXD (what a mouthful!) APS-C superzoom lens. Coming later this year, it’s also going to be available in Sony E mount flavour, too.
