Tearing down a $2,300 Sony GM lens for a DIY repair

As a photographer, it’s one of the worst things that can happen. You’re away for three weeks travelling and shooting – for work – and right at the beginning of the trip you drop the only lens you’ve brought with you. That’s what happened to Pierre Lambert and his $2,300 Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens recently.

With part of the body of the lens twisted, there were obvious issues. Pierre chose to take the rather unconventional decision to attempt to repair the expensive lens himself. Fortunately for us, he shot video so the rest of us can see what’s contained inside this $2,300 lens.

Patent shows the $5,500 Leica SL 16-35mm was actually designed by Konica Minolta

Remember when Huawei released the P9 and everybody got excited over its cameras because they had Leica written on them? And then there was the whole controversy over exactly how much involvement Leica had with their development? Well, it seems here we have another item bearing the Leica name with questionable origins. According to a patent recently filed by Konica Minolta, the $5,500 Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16-35mm f/3.5-4.5 ASPH lens is actually their design. Not Leicas.

Amazon honoring $500 pre-order price mistake on Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Lenses

When Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM Lens was first introduced, the announced price was $2,198. However, it was listed on Amazon for $500 less, and many users preordered it on that price. If you are among them, there’s good news for you – Amazon is honoring the $500 price mistake. Those who ordered the lens for $1,698 will actually get the lens instead of getting order cancellation.

More photo leaks show updates to Canon 16-35mm and 24-105mm lenses

It almost feels like the manufacturers leak these things themselves, sometimes, just to get some buzz going. After the recent 5D Mark IV leaks, we see two more. This time, it’s a couple of lenses.

The 16-35mm f/2.8 and 24-105mm f/4 are both favourites amongst Canon shooters. The 24-105mm f/4L IS USM first introduced by Canon in 2005 has been a highly regarded lens since day one. The 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM was released in 2007 and is the go-to wide zoom for many.

Has the 5D Mark IV been spotted out in the wild?

If windsurfer, Levi Siver’s Instagram feed is to be believed, we appear to have the first shot of the impending Canon 5D Mark IV.

During what EOSHD describe as a “Red Bull sponsored surf shoot”, Levi appears to have posted a photograph of the crew to his Instagram feed, with a caption that mentions “the new unreleased Canon camera”.

Canon Rumored To Be Replacing Older Tilt-Shift Lenses and the 16-35mm f/2.8L II

According to the latest Rumors, Canon will be updating its ancient tilt-shift lenses, as well as update its first f/2.8 zoom lens in two and a half years.

The production of these lenses, as well as their release, could be delayed due to the high demand of Canon’s recently released lenses as well as matters that are not in the company’s control.
