The focal length of your lens affects your portraits, both in terms of subject distortion and the subject-background relationship. In this video, Julia Trotti demonstrates how this looks. She uses five prime lenses from 24mm to 135mm, so you can see just how much the change in focal length can change the final look of your image.
Zeiss Batis 135mm f/2.8, rivals the Sigma 135mm Art before it even starts shipping
These days it seems that 135mm lenses are everywhere. After Sigma’s release of 135mm F/1.8 DG HSM Art lens, now Zeiss has their Batis 135mm f/2.8 ready for preorders. I was surprised (to say the least) by the price of Sigma’s lens, no matter the gorgeous photos it takes. However, now it becomes clear where they got the inspiration from. The new Zeiss 135mm lens has many god sides for sure, but it comes with a really high price tag!
The first Sigma 135mm f/1.8 review and sample photos are in and they look pretty stunning
As soon as Sigma announced the new 135mm f/1.8, it immediately made it onto my GAS list. Then I saw the price and it came straight back off my list again. After speaking with photographer Keydrin Franklin, though, and seeing some sample photographs (they’re down below), I think it may be going back on.
Keydrin’s used to shooting long fast glass for location portraits. His go-to lenses are the Nikon 200mm f/2 and Nikon 105mm f/1.4. So the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 is a good fit with his shooting style. He’s had the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 on loan for the last couple of weeks to give his thoughts on this lens. So far, those thoughts all seem very positive.
New Sigma 135mm F/1.8 DG HSM Art lens is now available for preorder
Sigma 135mm F/1.8 DG HSM Art is now officially available for preorders. Sigma has presented us with as many as four new lenses last month, but without any details on shipping and price. Now the 135mm is ready for preorders, and the shipping begins pretty soon – it’s expected on April 10th. We expected a good quality lens, and I’m sure it’s what they are. Sigma has definitely been raising the bar and improving over the years. But one thing that is pretty unexpected – the price.
Zeiss unveils three new full frame Milvus lenses for Nikon and Canon
Long known throughout the world for quality, Zeiss are the first name many think of when it comes to luxury lenses. Today, Zeiss have announced three new lenses; 15mm f/2.8, 18mm f/2.8 and 135mm f/2 for both Nikon and Canon. These lenses are part of Zeiss’s Milvus line, designed to “fulfill the requirements of today’s powerful digital cameras and those of the future thanks to their high imaging performance”.
As with the other members of the Milvus family, the three new lenses contain what Zeiss calls “harmonious bokeh”. This is essentially a floating element design which compensates for errors at different distance settings. They also claim excellent flare and ghosting control thanks to the T* anti-reflective coatings.
Samyang’s new lens doesn’t have autofocus – It’s a 135mm T2.2 cinema lens
Samyang recently put out a teaser to build up some hype for five new lenses it was about to release. There was much speculation abound about what these lenses were. Particularly, was Samyang finally dipping its toes into the world of autofocus?
It turns out that the answer is an emphatic no, not quite yet. They have now officially announced the first of those five new lenses, though, the Samyang 135mm T/2.2 Xeen Cinema Lens.
Mitakon’s Speedmaster 135mm f/1.4 is a $3,000 limited-edition monster of a lens
Yesterday we reported that Mitakon/ZY Optics is developing the world’s fastest 135mm full frame lens, and today the company has revealed its specs and made the lens available for pre-order.
Owning the longest f/1.4 full frame lens will come at a cost, $2,999 to be precise, but it will automatically become a collectible item with just 100 of these lenses being produced.
Another expense will be the gym membership you’ll need in order to carry around the 3kg (6.6 lbs) lens.
Oh, and there’s a $500 non-refundable deposit.
World’s fastest 135mm full frame lens on its way
When Sigma announced its 20mm f/1.4 Art lens a couple of days ago, among the excitement were calls for longer fast lenses as well.
While the release date is not yet known, ZY optics (aka Mitakon) is hard at work on its new 135mm f/1.4 Speedmaster full frame lens – the world’s fastest 135mm FF lens out there in today’s market.
With Canon and Nikon’s similar lenses reaching a maximum aperture of f/2, this lens is pretty much guaranteed to be a hit.
