7Artisans announces its new 12mm f/2.8 Mark II rectilinear APS-C lens

7Artisans has announced a new Mark II revision of its popular 12mm f/2.8 wide-angle manual focus lens for APS-C cameras. The new lens is going to be available in six different mounts, including Sony E, Nikon Z, Fuji X and Micro Four Thirds initially, with Canon EF-M and Canon RF to follow.

The wide 12mm focal length offers around 100° field of view on APS-C bodies, with a 15cm minimum focus distance. This makes it a great lens for landscapes and interiors while the wife f/2.8 aperture also makes it a great option for astrophotography.

AstrHori announces 12mm f/2.8 Fisheye, 18mm f/8 Shift and 85mm f/1.4 AF lenses for full-frame mirrorless

It looks like last week’s rumours of a couple of new AstrHori lenses proved out. Not only that, but there’s a third one, too, and all three are full-frame lenses. All in, we’ve got the AstrHori 12mm f/2.8 Fisheye for Z, L, E, RF and GFX mount, a super compact and lightweight AstrHori 18mm f/8 Wide-Angle Shift for Z, L E and RF mount, and an 85mm f/1.8 Autofocus lens for E mount.

Each of the three full-frame lenses targets a very different type of photographer, with each providing a very different set of use cases, from astrophotography, through product and landscapes all the way to portraits, and they’re all extremely low-budget, too. But in order of longest to shortest, here are all the details on the new AstrHori lenses.

New Sigma patent describes 12mm f/2.8, 14mm f/2 and 14mm f/2.8 lenses for L/E mounts

A new patent from Sigma, spotted by the folks at Hi Lows Note, describes three new full-frame lenses designed for mirrorless camera systems – the Leica L and Sony E mount systems. The lenses described by the patent are a 14mm f/2, a 14mm f/2.8 and a rather intriguing 12mm f/2.8.

There is currently a Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art series lens available for both Leica L and Sony E mounts, however, it’s essentially their DSLR lens with an extended barrel to fix the flange distance. The patent suggests a new replacement model could be imminent!

The new Laowa 12mm f/2.8 is designed for full frame and almost distortion free

Ultrawide angle lenses are practical and fun. Almost every landscape, architectural, wedding or event photographer has one, as do many filmmakers. I have one, too. The problem with most of them, though, is barrel distortion. Usually, the wider the lens, the more of it you get.

You can fix Barrel distortion in Lightroom, but it’s easier if you don’t have to deal with it at all. The new Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D from Venus Optics uses 16 elements in 10 groups to eliminate barrel distortion almost entirely.
