Olympus marks its 100th anniversary with this documentary detailing their 100 year evolution

Founded in Tokyo, Japan by Takeshi Yamashita in October 1919, Olympus is celebrating its 100th birthday this October. To mark this momentous anniversary, Olympus has released the above short film detailing its history and evolution over the past century.

In the video, Olympus pioneers, a used camera shop technician, and Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, Jay Dickman, share their stories on how Olympus influenced the world of photography. And the company sure has come a long way.

Nikon & Canon both report shipping delays for new DSLRs

I don’t suppose this bit of news will be much of a problem for most people. A limited edition 100th anniversary Nikon D5 is either going to be way over budget or just not that interesting to the majority of Nikon shooters. As for the 6D Mark II, it’s proven to be surprisingly popular. Surprising when you consider the early reviews and disappointments.

Regardless, both Nikon Japan and Canon Japan have announced that these DSLRs are being hit with shipping delays. Nikon released a statement that the 100th anniversary edition Nikon D5 has been delayed by a couple of weeks to “early August”. Canon’s statement cites the number orders surprissing their expectations.

Italian Nikon distributor sets new world record with the world’s largest “human image of a camera”

I always think it’s pretty cool when humans come together to form various images and designs on the ground. Especially when they manage to pull it off quite well. The amount of planning and coordination that goes into something like must be pretty immense. You need to come up with an idea, then a design, find enough people to actually do it, sort out the right coloured clothing, and then get them all to stand where they’re supposed to.

As part of their 100th anniversary celebration, Italian Nikon distributor, Nital, in collaboration with Media Italia has made one of their own. And they went huge. Involving over a thousand people. They are now the Guinness World Record holders of the “largest human image of a camera”. Essentially an image of a camera made up of humans.

The complete Nikon 100th anniversary camera & lens collection will cost you over $22,000

It’s been a while now since Nikon’s 100th anniversary products were teased in February. But now, Nikon have finally announced pricing for all of the 100th anniversary equipment. Anniversary and other limited edition kit is often seen as quite collectable. As a result, much of it is simply purchased and put in a display cabinet, never to actually be used.

The actual anniversary isn’t until July 25th, but the products are available to order now through authorised Nikon retailers. The items will be available until August 31st, 2017, so there’s only about an 11 week window if you want one. Below is a rundown of the anniversary products available, along with the price of the regular edition version of each item.

These are Nikon’s 100th anniversary commemorative cameras & lenses

It’s not exactly a secret that Nikon is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. But what has kept many in suspense is exactly what camera bodies they’ll use to celebrate it. After all, Nikon has a history of creating special and exclusive cameras for various events. Now it seems there are special 100th anniversary editions of both the Nikon D5 and Nikon D500 bodies.

There also seems to be a 100th anniversary edition of the “Holy Trinity” lenses. The Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR and 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR. In all cases, the typical black finish seems to have been replaced by a rather pretty gunmetal grey.

And this camera shaped the history of the 20th-century photography. Leica’s birthday celebration includes a range of content. Nikon begins 100th Anniversary celebrations with new website and video

Although Nikon’s official 100th birthday isn’t until July 25th, they’re starting the celebration early. And why not? 100 years is nothing to sniff at, so why limit it to just one day? Nikon Corporation, founded in 1917 as Nippon Kōgaku Kōgyō Kabushikigaisha (Japan Optical Industries Corporation) was founded when three leading optical manufacturers merged to form a single company.

Over the next few decades, they produced optical lenses (including those for early Canon cameras), binoculars, microscopes and inspection equipment. During World War II, they also manufactured bomb sights and periscopes for the Japanese military. Since then, they’ve helped to push camera technology in ways nobody could have ever imagined. The company itself has also gone through a lot of development of its own in that time, too.
