Ricoh has announced the new HD Pentax-D FA Macro 100mm f/2.8ED AW (All Weather) lens. This is the first Pentax macro lens to feature all-weather dustproof and weather-resistant construction. Ricoh says that when mounted to a weather-resistant Pentax DSLR, the new lens creates “a highly dependable, durable imaging system that performs superbly in demanding shooting conditions”.

The lens features a new optical design, although Ricoh says it’s almost as compact as its Pentax-D FA Macro 100mm f/2.8 WR predecessor. And as well as new insides, it also has a new exterior. The new design includes Pentax’s Quick-Shift Focus System. This enables photographers to instantly switch from auto to manual focus after the camera’s AF system locks on.

The LAOWA 100 mm F2.8 2:1 macro is so strong, it could compete with a microscope

What if you had a lens so strong, it could compete with a microscope?

The Laowa 100 mil F2.8 CA-Dreamer is a 2 to 1 macro lens which is quite an interesting option. It is a manual lens, with a portrait-friendly 100 millimeters.

It’s built kinda weird, with the front element moving inside the lens barrel. It’s the first I’ve seen this weird lens design. More on that later. It is also a macro lens with an amazing two to one magnification ratio. That is a LOT. The “standard” Canon 100mm 2.8, which is considered a great macro lens, “only” boasts a one to one ratio, so the Laowa provides twice as much magnification. But how close is 2:1?

The listing, which has since been removed, revealed a few details a day before the expected announcement. (Other territories should probably expect the Samyang branding of this lens)

As we reported earlier, the lens will be a 100mm f/2.8 macro and turns out it will also be available in Fuji X, Samsung NX, MFT and Sony E-mount versions.

While the price is significantly lower than rumored, and the lens seems to be nicely built, it does not feature the “unparalleled” features we had hoped for.
