Sh*t Clients Say to Photographers

Working as a photographer has plenty of advantages and you collect awesome experiences along the way, varying greatly depending on your niche. You might get to travel, attend music concerts or sport events, encounter amazing wildlife or meet amazing people.

The problem is that at the end of the day, at one level or another, you’ve got to deal with clients – and sometimes that’s harder said than done.

“Life as a photographer isn’t as glamorous as you might think,” DigitalRev say in their latest funny video, and here’s why.

If you’ve been photographing professionally for any amount of time, and probably if you only do it has a hobby, you’ve most definitely heard at least one of the next sentences.

By now you probably know that when a client says he’s open to ideas, there’s a good chance you’re going to have a hard time getting exactly what he wants.

Exposure has somehow become a legitimate replacement for money in the mind of some clients, and because you’ve got a camera some clients automatically assume you know how and are willing to fulfill the craziest photoshopping requests. Yes, even when you’re being ‘paid’ in exposure.

Then there are those who can’t help it and have to offer tips and advice every step of the way, even if their photography experience is limited to posting random photos on Instagram. And finally when it’s all said and done and you’re after your paycheck, the creative excuses you get from Accounting about why the payment is delayed leaves you believing that they should be writing scripts for Hollywood rather than sitting behind their desk.

In no way am I saying that all clients do this, and personally I’ve been lucky enough to have (mostly) awesome clients, but these people are definitely out there.

DigitalRev hit the nail on the head with this next video, and if it weren’t so true it would be even funnier.
