This short documentary, “Jimmy on the Run”, introduces us to fashion and street photographer Huang Jianmin a.k.a. Jimmy.
In it, he talks about his passion for photography, his lifestyle, his past in China, and his struggle with family expectations.
Born in village on the outskirts of Taishan, China, and having been raised mostly by his mother since he was seven due to his father working overseas, Jimmy had never even seen a city until he was twelve.
At sixteen, Jimmy was apprehensive about making the move to Amsterdam, but he and his mother made that move to join his father, where he discovered the new opportunities available to him.
It was also in Amsterdam where he discovered photography, and his obsession for street photography began.
Shooting on both film and digital formats, Jimmy hopes to one day turn his street photography portraits into a book.
It’s definitely worth taking time out of your day to watch it, and I’m sure there’s more than a few of us that can relate to certain aspects of Jimmy’s story.
