Comedian Ryan Higa says he’s not very good at dancing. So he found a solution how to dance without moving, and the solution is stop motion animation. It took almost a week of standing still and over 4,000 photos to turn Ryan into a dancer who can pull of all sorts of wacky moves, and even walk on water. The stop motion video he ended up with is pretty awesome, and he also shared the BTS video to show you how it was all done.

Filmmaker creates epic stop motion video from cross-sectional photos of wood
by Leave a CommentSometimes, I like something so much that I get lost for words. This was my first reaction when I saw a stop motion movie WoodSwimmer by filmmaker Brett Foxwell. He turned something simple as cutting wood into a jaw-dropping video. It feels like you’re watching a deep scan of a tree, with all its perfections and imperfections. It’s a different and abstract view on something so ordinary and so familiar to us. Together with the gorgeous subject, Brett’s technique is simply amazing. So, when the two are brought together – you get a stop motion video that will make you replay it more than once.
Build an advanced DIY motion control slider for timelapse and stop motion animation
by 3 CommentsSince initially discovering the Arduino, Eduard Puertas has spent a lot of time experimenting with it. It’s all an attempt to make his working life easier. As a stop motion animator, anything that makes his life easier is welcome. The Arduino allows him to automate many tasks that would be difficult to achieve manually. At the very least they’d take him a very long time to get perfect.
Eduard has built many automated motion control systems for his work based off the Arduino, including a slider. Now he’s revising his previous slider design to help improve things a little. He wants to keep the low weight while allowing for a larger load capacity.
Gorgeous stop motion movie shows the internals of Canon’s EF200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4×
by 2 CommentsCanon’s $11,000 200-400mm f/4L lens is not something you take apart lightly. (In fact, the full official name is Canon EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Lens with Internal 1.4x Extender, but we are trying to keep it short). But that is not to say that it can not be taken apart.
Canon’s youtube channel published such a lens being pilled apart piece by piece and to make it more interesting they do it with a stunning stop motion movie.
The description says it is made from “hundreds of precise mechanical and optical parts” but does not say how many hundreds. It just seems like a lot. Adn we get to see them all stripped from the lens
Stop Motion photography brings Honda advert (and photographic inspiration) to life
by 2 CommentsStop motion animation is hardly a new art, but the brand new advertisement PES created for Honda takes the art form to a new level. Instead of trying to deliver a smooth animation, the advert ‘breaks the fourth wall‘ and features the hands making the animation as part of the animation itself.
Stop Motion Goes Old-School in This Excellent Music Video
by 2 CommentsIn what seems to be the best use of audio cassettes and a Walkman in the last 15 years, Dropbear Digital created this 1980’s style music video for Quack Fat by Melbourne based DJ Opiuo.
Have a look at the behind-the-scenes video below for some insight on the painstaking process involved and you’ll understand why making the final video took hundreds of hours.
Son Lux’s Awesome Stop Motion Music Video Proves It’s About Creativity, Not Budget
by Leave a CommentPhotographers, and creatives in general, often think they are being held back by the gear they have (or lack), the locations available at their disposal and the size of the budget for their shoots.
Sure, having the latest and the greatest gear and all the budget you could ask for might make your life easier and offer more opportunities, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t create amazing work with simple gear, creativity and lots of hard work.
Son Lux’s music video, Change Is Everything, is a perfect example of what can be created using extremely low-budget materials – as long as you’re willing to put in the time and sweat.
Keep reading a behind-the-scenes video; you’ll be surprised how painful this project was to create.
Watch Transformers Go To Battle In This Insanely Epic Stop Motion Film
by 2 CommentsYou should probably just go ahead and clear the next 15 minutes of your schedule as I’m pretty sure you’re going to want to check out this epic Transformers stop motion movie. Even if you’re not a fan of the classic Transformers franchise, it’s hard to resist all the work that went into making this ridiculously awesome fan film.
The filmmaker and stop motion extraordinaire, Harris Loureiro, told us he shot the film entirely on a Canon 1000D over the course of six months. Since each individual motion has to be done by hand in between photographs, he said it would often take him about two hours and forty minutes just to get a usable 8 second clip (and, may we add, the movie is over 15 minutes long!).[Read More…]
World’s Largest Stop Motion Gif Photographed From Space
by Leave a CommentIf you’ve heard of INSA, chances are you’re thinking of animated walls right now. For those who don’t know him (and you definitely should), INSA is famous for his stop motion GIF-ITI artwork – animated GIFs created from graffiti paintings.
The UK street artist recently created the biggest animated painting for another GIF-ITI project, but with two changes from his ordinary workflow. Rather than painting a wall INSA painted an entire parking lot, and instead of a regular camera he used a satellite to capture his creation!
Inventive Video “Lightspeed” Combines Light Painting With Stop Motion Photography
by Leave a CommentIt starts out a lot like most timelapses, a sweeping landscape, some cool star trails, a trip to a southern California desert and then BA-BAM! An illuminated skeleton pops up out of the ground and takes us on an adventure through the desert as he morphs into a menagerie of animals right before our eyes–no CGI required.
Lightspeed is photographer, Darren Pearson (aka Darius Twin’s), moving creation that combines stop motion photography with his mad light painting skills to create a radiant animation. Lightspeed is the follow up video to his similar stop motion clip, Light Goes On, which you can also watch below, but first, take a look at the artist’s latest work:[Read More…]
