Here’s a super quick and relatively uncomplicated DIY build for those of you who are in need of a camera counter balance (think Steadicam) on the cheap. Using a few pieces of pipe and some basic fittings, you can make yourself a DIY version with just a little bit of elbow grease. The team over at I Like To Make Stuff created this video, showing you exactly how to make the counter balance.
While this build may not be the best substitute for an actual Steadicam on a professional set, it does get the job with markedly improved results over hand held video. You may also want to head over to the I Like To Make Stuff website, where there’s a complete parts list and a heap photos that go along with the build.
