If you use Facebook, you may have come across a 360 image featuring a psych slasher murdering his victims shared by one of your friends. If you have, then there is a high possibility that you have already seen the work of Adam Martyn Ewings. Through the creation of these 360 images and a bucketload of creativity, Adam has amassed over 3 million followers on his Facebook page. I contacted Adam to get some insight into the dark depths of his mind.

In his own words, Adam said “I’ve always been into creative subjects, every since I was little. I used to spend hours and hours just going out and messing about with my camera, I’d then start fiddling around with editing on my computer. I never studied it at school, I actually left school early and home studied, so I would self-teach myself everything and try out new ideas to see what works. I attended a photography club which fuelled my passion by being around like minded people.
I started up my first photography page on facebook which was just based around any photography I was doing at the time which included landscape, portraiture and I messed around with some dark art too. I would go out and about with friends starting to experiment and develop my ideas, the photo shoots were always fun. This is where my horror photography started, people enjoyed what I was creating and suddenly my page started growing, I couldn’t believe it when I hit my first 1,000! I worked hard week after week creating content for the followers to enjoy, whilst working my night shifts at Morrisons, I’d use the days to go out and create. I would never have thought I’d create such an impact and amount of followers when I first started, I’ve always done it because I enjoyed it but I’m glad so many others are now enjoying it now too. Of course, I’d love to make this my career but I’m taking it one step at a time.”

DIYP: Tell us a bit about your idea process….how do you come up with your image ideas? What can I say? I have a unique mind lol. I would either come up with an idea
AME: What can I say. I have a unique mind lol. I would either come up with an idea on the day or a couple days before a free shoot day.
DIYP: Do you think gear is important when creating an image or do you think vision is more important. Vision is definitely more important. You do not need top of the range equipment. Use your imagination.

DIYP: In a short time you have amassed a huge amount of followers what do you think it is that connects people to your work in such a powerful way. I’m not sure but what I believe is that people love to be able to interact with things and what I always try and do is make my work something that people can relate to and also with the 360 images I wanted to make something that they could experience as if they were really there. I wanted to make every image different so it gives everyone a different interactive experience every time. I also add little Easter eggs for people to notice!

DIYP: Out of all your images which image changed your life the most/or had the greatest impact on your career. I can’t really pinpoint it on just one image. All my images I have created have changed me in some way as I have learned and developed my skills and new ideas through every photo shoot I’m on. I have always worked on creating images that are as real looking as possible without using CGI or green screen for examples! So I guess I have enjoyed all aspects of my work with my crew!

DIYP: Horror photography can be seen as a lesser form of art by art snobs due to its explicit nature, have you ever experienced any of this kind of prejudice?
AME: Of course everyone has their own opinions and I always appreciate that if I ever get any negativity but to be completely honest that has been very very rare!
DIYP: What advice would you give to anyone looking to break it in the horror photography genre?
AME: If you are looking into that, keep working hard and don’t ever let anyone bring you down and never give up on your goals! No matter how much love or hate you get! If you enjoy it then keep going.
DIYP: Where do you see yourself in ten years time. What is your overall goal?
EMW: My goal is to keep creating content for people to enjoy and to keep developing my own skills! Who knows what the future will hold! I just love what I do and I appreciate all my followers!
DIYP: And finally, we all need to know……what is your favourite horror movie.
AME: Oooo that’s tough! I’m going to have to say every horror film I’ve seen has its own aspects of it which is great! Again, I really couldn’t pin point just one!
