A New Law Allows Indiana Photographers to Refuse Same-Sex Clients

A bill called ‘Religious Freedom Restoration’, recently approved by Indiana’s Senate Judiciary Committee, was signed earlier today by governor Mike Pence. The bill’s authors stated its aim is to protect business owners whose religious beliefs prevent them from providing services to gays and lesbians.

“Christian bakers, florists and photographers” were given as examples of businesses that are said to benefit from the new law, adding that they “should not be punished for refusing to participate in a homosexual marriage!”.

Opponents, however, claim the law will legalize discriminations against homosexuals.

Rentmeester v. Nike Jumpman Logo Lawsuit to be Heard in June 2016

Just one week after Nike filed to dismiss Jacobus Rentmeester’s lawsuit, a proposed schedule was filed on Tuesday in a Portland federal court.

The 17-page document, filed by attorneys for both sides, presents proposed timelines for the case with the start date being June of next year.

That being said, it is possible the case won’t even make it to court.

Heidi Levine is the Inaugural Winner of the Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award

The award, given by the International Women’s Media Foundation, was created in honor of Pulitzer Prize-winning AP photographer Anja Niedringhaus, who was killed while covering the 2014 presidential election in Afghanistan.

Heidi Levine is an American freelance photojournalist based in Jerusalem, who has covered the revolutions in Egypt, Libya and Syria as well as the Israel-Lebanon war and several conflicts in the Gaza Strip. She has also worked in India, Jordan, Iraq, Sweden, Afghanistan and Georgia.

I normally hangout at a local coffee shop editing photos because it’s easier for me to concentrate (plus free electricity and air condition… not always easy to find those in the Philippines). The software’s extensive adjustment tools will benefit from an updated processing engine and the entire workflow is said to be faster and more stable.

Other new features include Dynamic Locations, high-res previews for 4k and 5k monitors and improved graphics.

Bill Criminalizing Photographers Leads to Death Threats; Will Be Amended

The backlash sparked by Bill 2918, which would make photographing police within 25 feet of them a misdemeanor, went far beyond the usual social media posts.

Jason Villalba said his family received significant death threats following the proposed bill, but that he remains adamant not to withdraw it. Instead he will “considerably rewrite it”.[Read More…]

ESA Captures Total Solar Eclipse from Space

The total solar eclipse I’ve been telling you about (here and here) ended just minutes ago.

For those who were unable to see it due to clouds, your location or lack of proper gear, no need to worry; I’m sure your Facebook feed will be full of peoples’ photos of the relatively rare occurrence.

Many of these photos are bound to seem virtually identical, but the European Space Agency has captured a series of photos that will no doubt stick out from the rest. That’s because the ESA’s footage was captured from space using its Proba-2 minisatellite.

Other than the photo above, the ESA also released a short time lapse of the event.

Photographer Creates Superhero Portraits by Splashing Milk on Naked Models (NSFW)

Jaroslav Wieczorkiewicz made quite a splash with his Milky Pin-Ups, and following that success he decided to create another series called Splash Heroes.

Using the same techniques of high-speed photography and expertly splashed milk, Jaroslav created an outstanding series of photos which he used to make a calendar (sold out in days).

Jaroslav was kind enough to share a lot of information regarding this project, including his gear, lighting setup, work process and plenty of behind-the-scenes footage.
