My 2020 had very few moments of pure happiness, and one of them was when I saw the moon through a telescope for the first time. Sadly, to this day, I never managed to photograph it, neither with my phone nor my camera.

But it’s far from impossible. In fact, you can take magnificent moon shots even if you only use your phone. An 18-year-old photographer Vijay Suddala proves it with his magnificent photo that I immediately wanted to learn more about. He kindly granted my wish and shared some details of his image so both you and I can start shooting the moon with our phones.

A few days ago, we had the chance to observe this year’s first “Blood Moon.” It’s the total lunar eclipse that makes the moon appear red, hence the scary name of the phenomenon. But other than red, our moon can appear to have many different colors.

From the usual greyish tones, all the way to yellow, deep red, blue, and even purple. Our moon appears in so many different shades, and Marcella brought them all together and shared some details of this captivating photo with DIYP.

NASA’s Juno mission has recently released a photo of the gas giant Jupiter alongside two of its moons Io and Europa. The mission captured this view of Jupiter’s southern hemisphere during the spacecraft’s 39th close flyby of the planet on Jan. 12 2022.

Although the two moons are quite dark on the right-hand side of the image, they are clearly visible, and really help show the difference in scale between the huge planet and its moons. The moons are more visible in the close-up image below.

If you share a video on social media and it contains someone else’s copyrighted work, you’re bound to get a claim from the content owner. But what happens when you get it for your own work? This weird thing happened to filmmaker Philip Bloom when he shared his video of the full moon. It got removed because, apparently, videos of the moon were copyrighted to Universal Music Group.
