Backup Quick Tip: How To Move Your Dropbox Pro Folder If Your C Drive Is Full

If you’re a Dropbox user, you probably have your Dropbox folder installed at the default location – on your systems drive the Main (C:) drive (under My Documents in you are on windows).

If you have upgraded to Dropbox Pro with 1 TB of storage space – sooner or later you’re probably going to run into a storage space issue on your local computer – unless your current Main (C:) drive is already larger than 1 TB. Mine wasn’t.

Backup Workflow using BitTorrent Sync and Crashplan

Backups! We all need them, we hardly make ‘em!

Over the years, as a digital artist, I have on occasion lost bodies of work. I lost them when building a new PC, I lost them when my drive crashed, fell, burnt, and I even lost them while watching in horror as I mistakenly said yes to “are you sure you want to format drive D”?.

Data keeps piling up, and to keep everything archived we need at least double the amount of drive space.

Luckily I don’t do animation anymore so my projects aren’t that super large anymore, but I have been photographing and editing work for a couple of years now and the data pile keeps growing. Next to that I kept running out of space locally, and kept buying new drives for my Drobo to accommodate my expanding archive. The problem with new drives to store your projects is that you need to copy your data over and over, you get sloppy, you forget projects, you ignore folders, and in the end you lost some precious pictures in the transfer process.

I’m a creative artist, and even though I have OCD tendencies, I get bored with tedious tasks and mistakes are easily made.  I needed a better backup plan to safeguard my body of work, without having to spend too much time on this task.

Now there are numerous ways to maintain a backup, but I’m going to share one that has been working for me the past few years, and makes me feel secure about my data.

About a month ago my computer’s Power Supply Unit died on me. While changing that power unit was both cheap and got me banging my head against the computer case technically effortless, it got me thinking that my pictures are not all that secured on my hard drive. Now, I do back up to an external disk, but after hearing some tips from DIYP readers, I realized that I am guilty of seven deadly backup sins. Micron pushes through the 1TB barrier with the new Micron i400 1.5TB microSD card

Anybody who knows me knows I’m a fan of big storage, especially when it comes to small storage. After 1TB SD cards were first shown off at Photokina 2016, it took a couple of years to come to market. But in 2019, they did and we’ve reviewed both the SanDisk Extreme Pro 1TB microSD (review here) and the Silicon Power Superior 1TB microSD (review here) cards here on DIYP.

While 1TB microSD cards still seem pretty insane, the devices that support them can actually handle cards up to 2TB. The problem is, nobody’s gone past that 1TB barrier. Until now. Micron has announced their newest high-capacity microSD card, which clocks in a massive 1.5TB. But it’s not all great news (yet).

Capture One 22 v15.3.0 update brings Sony wireless tethering, magic eraser, and early iPad support

Capture One has announced the newest v15.3.0 update for Capture One 22. It brings with it a number of features for Sony and Canon shooters who want to shoot tethered and brings new tools like the Magic Eraser. It also sees a Tool Panel redesign, easier watermarking, support for the Canon EOS M50 II and EOS R5C along with a bunch of new Canon lenses.

The company is also gearing up to release its Capture One iPad app later this month and the latest Capture One 22 update lays some of the foundations for that with Cloud Transfer to easily sync up and send files over to your iPad. The latest update also brings a bunch of extra little features to help improve the overall user experience
