2014 is going to be a game-changing year for wearable technology. Google Glass is slowly making its way into the consumer market, having just finalized deals with companies like Ray-Ban, and then there’s independent companies like GoPro that have already popularized the action camera within the timespan of less than a year. Now, Panasonic is stepping into the ring with its announcement of the HX-A500 4K action camera.
I was a reading an article last week about clever ways to mount a foam board in a studio when I thought about sharing one cheap and simple piece of gear that is regularly a part of my shooting routine, especially with product photography – an illustration board.
Normally I can get a 4×2 feet illustration board at about $2-$4 here in the Philippines, it comes in a black and has a white side which is perfect.
Actually, illustration boards are rated second most used items after Granite tiles. What makes them great (aside for the price) is that they are very cheap, disposable, and have many many uses. Here are a few ideas of what you can do with illustration boards.[Read More…]
These guys run a video advertising company called Torchborne Screens in Australia. When it comes to the video advertising, it looks like they know their field. They released this demo reel to promote the work they do, and it hit the front page of Reddit’s videos section. The video stands as a reminder of what’s possible with the gear we have today and with how accessible that gear is.
Not to be overly dramatic, but keyboard shortcuts can– and will– change your life. Okay, maybe it’s a little overly dramatic after all, but I’m not kidding. Considering how much time some of us spend in front of the hypnotic glow of a computer screen, it makes sense to incorporate something into our workflow that’s specifically designed to reduce some of that time– at least the part spent in editing and post-production. I can’t help you with the hours you wile away on Facebook, Pinterest, solitaire, or cat videos, but I can help you draw a line in the sand when it comes to Photoshop.
If you ever wondered how much some of your used gear can be sold for, looking at this auction may be a good buzz (though totally relevant). The Hasselblad 500 that was used to shoot the landing on the moon was recently auctioned for about 3/4 of million dollars. $758,489 to be exact.
Galerie Westlicht which held the auction, described the gear as “part of the equipment carried by the 1971 Apollo 15 mission, the fourth manned mission to land on the moon”.
Updated: the giveaway is now over, thanks everyone for playing! winner details at the bottom.

We all love automation throughout our daily lives. Like, we LOVE automation…in everything. The less we have to actually do, the happier we tell ourselves we’ll be. (While I would love to digress into an ongoing monologue about human psychology, this is neither the time nor the place…) In the busy world of photographers, artists, and creative professionals, automation can, indeed, be a huge asset in allowing us to better manage our time, get more accomplished, and geek out a little along the way.
