Photographers and videographers, regardless of their skill level, can have tons of gear. It’s not easy to keep track of it all, so Jared Polin, also known as FroKnowsPhoto, has created MyGearVault. This is an app that helps you input, organize and protect your gear in a simple and efficient way. You can keep track of all your photographic gear for any purpose – business, personal or insurance. It makes it easier and less time consuming to organize the gear and always have a clear insight what you own and how much it’s worth. It’s useful for photographers and videographers, regardless of their skill level and the amount of gear they own.

Input

You can quickly input every piece of your gear into your personal vault. You can take photos of your gear, together with their receipts, and add their serial numbers. Even if your piece of gear doesn’t have a serial number, you can still add it.

If you want, you can add details like purchase date, price and more.  This way you have all the gear information in one place, easy to find and access at any time.

Organize

MyGearVault also enables you to organize your gear. You can save each item into a specific category: cameras, lenses, lights, memory cards etc. When you click on a specific category, the app shows you all the items you entered, together with their total value.

Another way to organize your gear is to create “kits”. This means organizing the gear for specific shoots. For example, you can create a travel kit, a wedding kit, video kit and so on. This is another great way to know what you have and what it’s worth. And I also think it’s a fine way to always have a checklist before you head for shooting, so you don’t forget anything.

Protect

Your gear is stored safely inside the app, and you can create an access code so nobody but you can enter the app. In case your gear gets stolen, you have all the necessary information. This enables you to quickly and accurately file a police report or an insurance claim. The app even has a “Stolen” button, so you can enter a serial number and the police report into a searchable database. This way, if someone tries to verify your gear item as your own, MyGearVault will be notified.

Last but not least, MyGearVault has access to top rated insurance companies to help you find the best insurance policy for your needs.

MyGearVault is free for download on the app’s website and iTunes. Below you can see a playlist of useful how-to videos to guide you through the app. As for Android users, the version for their mobile devices is soon to come, so stay tuned.
