Slider-Tripod

Known for its tripods, tripod heads and other support equipment, Manfrotto’s newest products seem to be a natural next step for the company.

The slider comes in two versions, 60cm and 100cm (2’ and 3.3’) long, and is aimed at experienced photographers and videographers.

Other than being extremely smooth and accurate, the slider also promises to be silent and steady.

Manfrotto states that the sliders are totally machined and that the 8 high precision steel ball bearings used in them will provide users with smooth and accurate sliding movements. In addition, the carriage’s friction can be adjusted to your liking. The wide tracks of the slider should also add to the sturdiness and steadiness.

Adding to the fluidity and silence of the sliders’ movement are the wheels, made of an “an exclusively strong material (PSU – high performance polymer)”.

Weighing in at 2.19 and 2.95 kg (4.83 and 6.5 lbs), both versions are made of aluminum and steel and can safely carry a payload of up to 10 kg (22 lbs).

The slider includes a bubble level and numerous standard 1/4 “ and 3/8 “ threads that allow for attachments such as the Digital Director or the company’s arms to be used.

The Manfrotto website shows eight various slider and head combinations on its website, four for each version, but for now the slider is available in the following combinations:

60 cm slider – $450 (plus free shipping)

60slider

100 cm slider – $500 (plus free shipping)

100slider

60 cm slider and 500 fluid head kit – $570

60slider-500head

100 cm slider and 502 fluid heat kit – $680

I have not tried this slider in person, but based on my experience with other Manfrotto products I’d say it will probably give the other sliders out there a run for their money.
