Cinemagraphs can add a new dimension to your photography work. While they’re usually created from videos, there’s now a Photoshop plugin named Artymate which lets you create cinemagraphs from still images. It is really easy to use and can give you great results.
Artymate is a new project from Australian photographer Karen Alsop (a.k.a. Story Art). We’ve featured some of her work on our blog before: she uses her photography to help people make their dreams come true. She does wonders in Photoshop and it’s one of the main tools in her work. Now she’s run Artymate after working on it for a while, and it’s officially available for purchase.
With this plugin, you can add a variety of animations to all kinds of still images. You can create flapping bird’s wings, cascading waterfalls, moving clouds, flowing water, and more. You can apply all the animations directly in Photoshop using a single photo and the Artymate plugin.
You can choose the direction of animation and add variations with various pre-programmed effects. Artymate also lets you add custom video overlays. You can make the subject’s hair flow, or add fire, smoke, particles, and light to your photos.
If you’d like to learn how to apply all these effects to your photos, there’s a website section with tutorial videos. So check them out to see the animation effects you can get, but also to learn how to get them.
Finally, here are some examples of the animated photos available on Artymate’s Instagram page:
If you like what you see, Artymate is available for purchase through the website. It costs $50, and it will work with Photoshop CC. If you get your copy, make sure to share your results with us, and if you post it on Instagram, use the hashtag #artymate.
