How Apple makes you cry in three minutes, using only an iPhone X

Smartphones have come a long way, and every once in a while there’s a photoshoot or a video shot entirely on a phone. But, Apple Singapore brings you something a bit different.  A short film titled Three Minutes was shot entirely on iPhone X, but there’s more to it than just showing off what the phone can do. It’s a beautiful movie that will make you think and maybe even bring you to tears.

Three Minutes was directed by Peter Chan, as a unique Chinese New Year story. It’s a story about a mother who doesn’t spend much time with his son. In the movie, you can see the three minutes she managed to “steal” between two train rides, where she works as a ticket collector. The movie is crammed with emotion and suspense. But it also makes you ask yourself: “If your family reunion only lasts three minutes, what will you do?” I won’t spoil it for you, just watch it and I believe you’ll enjoy it.

Although Three Minutes was made to show off iPhone X’s camera capabilities, which certainly are great for a smartphone, you can see it from another perspective too. I believe most of us agree that smartphones can’t beat high-end movie cameras in terms of image quality, no matter how advanced they are. Still, this short film has a story in only three minutes, it’s emotional and it makes you think. So, in a way, a movie like this can be seen as a confirmation of the famous claim that “gear doesn’t matter.” As long as you have a good idea, a story you want to tell and a smartphone, you’re ready to roll.
