We’ve had our share of both Animals and Humans taking drones out of the skies when they consider them a nuisance, but I think this is the first time that we’re seeing a drone being lassoed and pulled in.
Tice Ledbetter was flying his Inspire 1 over the San Diego pier when he caught the attention of one of the local fishermen.
The fisherman then reels in his pole and casts at the drone. The line hooks in one of the propellers and the fisherman tried to reel it in. Think old west style cab lassoing only with a pole and a drone. I guess the line broke at some point because the fisherman did not manage to pull it. Tice did fly about half a mile with the line entangling his motor.
Even more interesting than the accurate cast are the comments that followed the video which has a “Wanted for being an asshole” slide, here are a few of the more ‘interesting ones’
The only asshole here is the one filming. Great cast btw
Yes, what a jerk, the person that was ruining everyones quiet fishing with a rude drone. Glad for that guy with amazing accuracy
drone owners are such creepy people
Some came to the Tice’s defense:
So many stupid comments, public place so not an issue, the fisherman is clearly in the wrong AND caught on film, idiot. The battery’s only last a short while on those things anyway, impatient fool
Electric drone 100 feet up, you can’t [hear] it!
The footage, by the way, is spectacular:
