After all the pleas not to be “that guy” and use photography as an excuse to seduce women, there’s now a book that actually encourages it. What’s more, it teaches you how to become that guy. A book titled “How to Seduce Women through Photography” really exists, and it’s freely available on Amazon. The author’s signed as Goldmund, and he promises to teach you how to become a photographer “who is not only comfortable meeting and modeling beautiful women in the street, but also seducing them into bed.”
The book is available on Amazon for $10 (Kindle) and $20 (paperback) at the moment of writing this article. I saw the book cover, the description, and the preview – and it’s a collection of statements that gave me chills. Let’s start with the contents.
As you can see, Goldmund doesn’t only teach you how to approach unknown girls and try to get them to bed. There are even the “Gear” and “The Technical Aspects” chapters, which I suppose teach you the most basics things about photography. I particularly like the “Success Stories” part. I wonder if Terry Richardson had some stories to share.
Now we get to the book description, and it gets more serious:
“Photography is an art that is as enriching as it is seductive. It can open up new ways of looking at the world, train you to become more social, and create opportunities to meet an endless amount of attractive women. This guide will: Suggest the proper equipment needed to get started. Teach you techniques to become proficient using a camera. Explain different ‘projects’ that will make it easy for you to approach girls on the street and get them excited to be involved in your photos. Include tips on how to easily set up dates and seduce the women you meet. And much more… If you are interested at all in photography and meeting women, An Introduction to Camera Game is the best place to get started.”
So basically, the book teaches you that photography is nothing but a tool to get to know hot girls and seduce them. Really classy. Speaking of class, let’s jump to the book cover. It features naked female legs, lingerie, a camera, and a note that reads “I want to f*ck you.” Yup, the cover photo of the article is the actual book cover. All that’s missing is a bottle of chloroform.
But wait, it gets worse. There’s also a book preview available, and you can read the introduction. Here, Goldmund promises to share with you a “detailed script that you can follow,” which “has gotten [him] laid many times over.” The part I quoted in the first paragraph also comes from the introduction, and the author promises to help you meet women in the street and get them into bed thanks to photography.
As you can probably imagine, the people have been leaving 1-star reviews and asking that the book is removed from Amazon. Some of the comments point out that this is “borderline rapey” and that it “makes women seem stupid and male photographers more like predators.” And I totally agree.
I think a book like this is wrong on so many levels. First of all, it really looks like “rape 101” and it’s disturbing. Being a creep with a camera and approaching women in the street is definitely not the way to go. Trying to get them into bed under an excuse of “photo shoot” is sexual harassment. Secondly, as a photographer, I also hate the fact that this book presents photography as a mere tool to help you get laid. It’s completely undermining photography as a form of art. And lastly, as one of the users wrote, this harms professional photographers. People who use photography as an excuse to get women into bed give real photographers a bad name.
So please, don’t use photography as an excuse to get women to bed. Don’t buy this book. And don’t ever be “that guy.”
