Concerts and festivals are back, and many of us are thrilled to finally be a part of the crowd again. However, the visitors of Lollapalooza took “crowd” to a whole new level. Colin Hinkle tweeted a photo from the festival, showing how packed the place was. It quickly went viral and, not surprisingly, sparked sharp criticism.
In case you haven’t had your anxiety attack today, take a look at this photo:

Unlike some photos of “crowded places” that were actually taken with telephoto lenses, this image shows how it really was. It’s an aerial image so lens compression wouldn’t play a big roll. But also, some videos from Lollapalooza attendees confirm that the place was, indeed, packed.
Let’s take a live look at what that crowd is actually like on the ground…you know, just in case you all thought for a second there might be a chance there was some social distancing happening. #Lalapalooza #COVID19 pic.twitter.com/6m9T3MsP06

Of course, folks weren’t happy to see this and they expressed their opinions in the comments:
I don’t know why people are so incapable of finding a median. Yeah we don’t need to be hiding in our houses fully locked down anymore but do we really need to go straight to mass crowds with thousands and no masks 😐

I guess we’ll find out in a couple weeks how many followed the requirements. pic.twitter.com/iWthYRF5zC

Sigh. They’re gonna make us all learn the entire Greek alphabet, aren’t they? A new letter every month might be a bit much for many Americans.

As always, most people turned to humor to criticize the festival and its attendees:
Gosh whichever variants are birthed from that crowd I hope they name it Lollapalooza

One of them even turned this photo into a challenge. But instead of finding Waldo, they challenged us to try and find people wearing masks. I played a similar game while waiting in row to get vaccinated – I tried finding people who weren’t wearing masks under their noses. It was quite a challenge.
Let’s make a little challenge for you all
Try to find at least 3 people using mask in this crowd

I spent entirely too much time trying to find as many people with masks as I could. Shout out to Charlie from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, the guy whose face looks like MJ from Scooby Doo & Mr. Shue pic.twitter.com/kz2Lo1Fibn

I’ve attended two festivals and a few concerts this year, and I missed it so much in 2020! I stayed away from large crowds and front rows though, as I still don’t feel comfortable getting too close to people. If I were younger, I might be equally irresponsible like those folks at Lollapalooza, who knows. I know we’re all eager to get back to life and trust me, I feel that as well. But regardless of the pandemic, this is how I imagine hell. A bunch of sweaty people I don’t know rubbing against me while we’re listening to crappy music live. But in the age where we get a new Greek letter of the Coronavirus every month, this is even scarier!
