Last year saw the rise of epic wedding photo’s featuring bridal guests running away from dinosaurs, fighting zombies, be awesome Jedi’s and so on.

A new trend was born and I decided to hop on this bandwagon and see if I could make images like these come true.

I banded together with Aqua Libra Photography for a brainstorm session, to see what we could come up with.

When Jeremy and Emma approached me about including a Story Art piece as part of their wedding day coverage I was initially hesitant. My composites often takes hours of pre planning, not to mention the time that would need to be allocated to the shoot itself, on the wedding day. I love to take a challenge and run with it though, so it wasn’t long (10 minutes?) before I was dreaming up ideas for their custom wedding Story Art piece

Here’s the deal with wedding photography in the rain. No one is an expert at it because no one would choose to do it all the time. While it can be fun to get creative with some inclement weather shots and fun lighting, there are complications that come with shooting a wedding in the rain so let’s talk through some of the problems and solutions.

I am shooting over 100 weddings in 2022, and I just moved from Strobes to LEDs

ML-60bi LED light for wedding photography - title

It may sound crazy, but by the end of 2022, I will have shot over 100 weddings. It was quite a tolling year, but I did not want to leave anyone who got their wedding delayed due to COVID without a photographer and… The floodgates opened.

As a photographer who shoots so many weddings, I am very picky about my gear. I care about a lot, but pushed to the wall, I would say that durability and size/weight are the two most important factors when it comes to choosing gear. There is more to come, but the TL;DR is I’m in love with the Godox ML60Bi LED light.

A Pennsylvania bride was shocked to receive her wedding images to find that “crazy eyes” had been photoshopped onto anyone who was blinking. Anaya Ramos-Bridgeford had been excited about viewing the images from her wedding but was left in hysterics when she spotted the error.

Anaya subsequently posted the offending photos to Facebook giving pretty much the entire world a good laugh. It turned out, however, that the fault wasn’t that of her wedding photographer, but of the editing company he had outsourced the retouching to.

The coronavirus pandemic has certainly changed the weddings in 2020 – but thankfully, it didn’t stop them. Although this has been a challenging year for couples and wedding photographers alike, plenty of couples have still tied the knot and lots of wonderful photos have been taken. The International Photographer of the Year is a contest that gathers the best wedding images, and it has just announced its 2020 winners. They celebrate love and unity in these crazy times, and they are certainly a real treat to look at.

Bride and father arrested after allegedly trying to force photographer to pay to shoot her wedding

This is one of those stories that just seems so outrageous, it has to be fake. Or it happened in Florida. I have no evidence of the latter, although I did discover this story via an Orlando “news” website. It begins with a post on Reddit, by user Breathofthemild420 who had a very unusual tale to tell. He spoke of a bride’s proposition: “You pay us $50 and then start taking photos that you can sell at the wedding to people who want them.”.

Naturally, he said no, before she turned into a bridezilla and he finally agreed to make her go just go away with no plan of actually turning up. On the day of the wedding, when he didn’t arrive, he says the bride and her father harassed him to the point of showing up at his house and beating on his door. But there’s so much more to this story.

I’ve lost track of the number of people who’ve asked me how to shoot this type of photo over the years. The basic concept is quite simple, although it can be difficult to wrap your head around if you’ve not used flash in such conditions before.

In this video, photographer Eric Floberg talks about how you can achieve this effect in-camera. While the principle is pretty straightforward, it’ll definitely take some practice.

This Saturday, arson was confirmed in an abandoned building in Dayton, Ohio. Thick smoke and huge fire got the residents concerned, but one wedding photographer and a couple took an advantage of the situation. In the middle of the reception, they noticed the fire, rushed to the scene and the building in flames as a backdrop.

You’ve seen some crazy wedding photos on DIYP before. This time, allow Abbi and Callen Hearne to blow your mind with the wedding photos they took. The couple photographed an adventurous wedding of Kim and Ryan in a desert near Moab, Utah. They shared the photos with us and they were taken on a space net 400 feet above a canyon! It’s one of the most colorful weddings I’ve ever seen, and even though the photos make me dizzy just from looking at them – I’m impressed by both the idea and the execution.
