New Canon EOS R6 specs leak shows a mirrorless 6D Mark II with 4K60 video, IBIS and dual card slots

With the exception of the coronavirus, the photography world is glued to news of Canon’s upcoming EOS R5 – essentially the mirrorless continuation of Canon’s popular EOS 5D DSLR line. But Canon is also working on an EOS R6, which looks set to replace the EOS 6D DSLR product line – which will presumably end with the 6D Mark II.

EOS R6 talk has been a little quiet for a while, but a few new specs about the camera have been leaked via Canon Rumors. The new specs add to those from a couple of months ago, and offer a little more insight into what we can expect.

Canon releases firmware update to stop your 6D Mark II freezing and crashing

Canon 6D Mark II users can come in out of the cold. Canon has released a firmware update which now prevents the freezing issues that some of you may have experienced. The issue would be that in certain circumstances, the touchscreen and buttons would become unresponsive.

While this firmware update isn’t exactly feature-packed, only solving this one problem, it is an important problem that needed to be solved. And it’s one that those who’ve been affected by it will be welcome to see.

This photographer took a dancer to Iceland to test out the Canon 6D Mark II

The Canon 6D Mark II has had a bit of a tough time since its release. But, for all the disappointment surrounding this camera’s release, that doesn’t mean it completely sucks. Not by a long shot. It’s just not as good as people were hoping for. To help prove that the 6D Mark II was can still shoot decent images, Belgium based photographer, Shed Mojahid took it to Iceland. Along with a dancer.

Shed tells DIYP that the idea was to mix the beautiful landscapes with powerful acrobatic movements. A short film featuring some pretty cool timelapse and behind the scenes from the shoot was shot entirely with the 6D Mark II and 24-70mm f/2.8II L and 135mm f/2L lenses.

Testing the Canon 6D Mark II for astrophotography nightscapes

No pretty pictures in this blog I’m afraid! This is a blog for gear geeks. The long-awaited Canon 6D Mark II camera is out, replacing the original Canon 6D after that camera’s popular 5-year reign as a prime choice among astrophotographers for all kinds of sky images, including nightscapes and time-lapses.

As all new cameras do, the 6D Mark II is currently fetching a full list price of $2000 U.S. Eventually it will sell for less. The original 6D, introduced in 2012 at that same list price, might still be available from many outlets, but for less, likely below $1500 US.

Canon 6D Mark II dynamic range results are disappointing

There has been a great hype about the new Canon 6D Mark II. Now that it’s officially released, the first dynamic range test results are coming in – and they are not good. As it turns out, the 6D Mark II has less dynamic range than models like 5D Mark IV or 1D X Mark II. What’s more, the results show that it even has less dynamic range than some of the APS-C bodies like Canon 80D. While this may not be a deal breaker for some photographers, it does affect your shots and the amount of detail you can get in editing.

The Canon 6D Mark II gets put through its paces in this festival photography field test

Normally, when we use the phrase “field test”, it’s not meant quite so literally. It just means putting the camera to work in its typical usage environment. Camera use is quite broad, though. In this video from music photographer Matt Higgs for WEX Photographic, though, the 6D Mark II is taken to task in a field at the 2000 Trees festival in the UK.

Music festivals can be great places to really test a camera’s limits. You’ve got such a wide variety of potential subjects. Fast moving, slow moving, brightly lit, low light, individual people, groups, close ups, and more. The Canon EOS 6D Mark II is the long awaited update to 2012’s EOS 6D. But how well does it handle in the real world?

Canon 6D Mark II officially announced and ready for preorders

We’ve already learned or speculated a lot about the new Canon 6D Mark II, and now it’s officially out. Canon has released their latest full-frame camera, which brings full-frame camera accessible to a wider number of users. It’s an improved version of its predecessor 6D, and it’s aimed at a wide range of shooters – from those looking for their first full-frame camera to more experienced full-frame users.

Canon 6D Mark II Photos leaked and updated specs

Every time a new camera is coming out, everybody wants to know what it looks like. They usually look pretty much like their predecessors, though. Canon have their own look and ergonomics, and all the other manufacturers have theirs. So, unsurprisingly, the Canon 6D Mark II looks pretty much like the Canon 6D. Nonetheless, photos of the 6D Mark II have now been leaked.

As with most leaked photos that come right before an announcement, these come courtesy of Digicame-info and Nokishita. Along with the photos, there’s some updated specs, answering a couple of questions that still remained a mystery. Specifically, that it will have built in 5-axis stabilisation, first seen in the M5, ISO 102400 (extended), and a burst rate of 6.5fps.
