If you have ever tried to make a decision between a PC and a Mac, I’m sure you’ve heard the suggestions from the users of either one or the other. Photographer Manny Ortiz is a user of both, and in his latest video, he gives five reasons why he opted for a PC after all.
Manny was trying to find a laptop that allows editing 4K video, and that’s small and portable enough to carry along. The choice was between Dell XPS 15 and MacBook Pro. Without the strong passion for one or the other – he chose the Dell XPS 15, and there are some good reasons for that.

1. Price
Dell XPS 15 of the same specs as MacBook Pro costs $1000 less. Hardcore Mac fans would probably justify the huge difference in price. Since Manny is a user of both, he couldn’t find the reason why you would spend $1000 more on a laptop with the same specs.
2. Ports
For Mac, you need to buy adapters and dongles. First of all, it doesn’t really justify the higher price I mentioned earlier, and second – you need to keep track of them. PCs have all the ports you may need as a photographer and videographer, so you don’t have to worry about the adapters.
3. Ability to upgrade
With Mac, you aren’t able to upgrade the RAM or SSD. What you buy is what you get. On the other hand, PC allows you to upgrade it, and I know for some people it’s a deal-breaker when choosing between a PC and a Mac.
4. Touchscreen
A thing that Manny points out as another advantage is the touchscreen on Dell XPS 15. Many people don’t like using the touchscreen on their computer because of smudges and fingerprints (I can understand that). Still, some may find it handy and useful, and it could speed up their workflow.
5. Nvidia GTX 1050 chip
While editing in Adobe Premiere, the PC’s never had any trouble, and it edits the footage from all cameras. According to Manny, the rendering time is also impressive.
Of course, neither Mac nor PC is perfect, and they both have their strong and weak sides. But I believe it’s helpful to hear the suggestions from someone who uses both of them equally. It’s probably the most objective set of reasons and suggestions you can hear regarding the Mac vs. PC choice.
Now, in my case, the price and the ability to upgrade would always turn me towards PC. On the other hand, I’d always pick one without the touchscreen, as I can’t imagine photo editing and fingerprints together on the same screen. What about you? Why made you choose PC or Mac?
