What's Your Favorite Light
After doing nothing but moving pausing for a short while to let everyone suck in the goods on Studio @ Home, we're going to continue to explore lighting options. We already discussed LED lights, and we'll be exploring worklights, strobes and big guns next. Till then, I'd love to hear what you use for lighting your pictures.
If your answer is not on the list, let us know via the comments.
The other thing is that we are going to have a new assignment on S@H. get your cameras ready. And now on with the entrée.

I use a mix of Alien bees,
I use a mix of Alien bees, strobes and natural light. All depends on the effect I'm after!
Teh strobe
You can't go wrong with small strobes overall (since you can just pack them up and move your entire setup on location) but I wouldn't mind some larger flashes with modelling light. They do tend to be rather expensive, though.
Best Piece of Equipment I've ever bought!
Hands down, other than my camera and lens, the best piece of photography equipment I have ever purchased is my JTL Mobilight 200. I take this light everywhere I go and love shooting with it! The light-weight and small size of the battery makes it extremely easy to move while shooting...everything is attached to the light stand. I recommend this light to anyone who does a lot of on location work. It's a great light to use in the studio as well and it also comes in a 300 watt model.

To see examples of the shots I got with this light, check out my site. A majority of my shots on there were made with this light.

I am a student, so expensive
I am a student, so expensive lighting doesn't happen, but i was able to hack 3 used vivitar 285hv's with cactus triggers and external batteries for relatively cheap. strobes ftw!
lights
2 AB800's and some modifiers
A couple of cannon strobes
4 7 foot northlight windows (YEEEHAAA)
It depends
Different situations call for different lighting techniques. I shoot in everything from natural light, to ambient light, to on camera flashes, to studio strobes, to a video light.
re: lights
@ Drew, Eric - It figures that you;d use more than one type of light source depending on the call of duty. However, I was wondering which do you like best. Kinda like asking to choose between mom and dad :)
@FiveseveN - Small strobes are great. it was my guess that they will rank high on the poll. Several photogs use them as kicks like you suggest. Chase Jarvis does so and so does David X. Tejada.
@Willis Bretz - thanks for the tip looks like a great system that give some power + portability. Thank for the link. I love the art.
Thanks for everyone who votes on the poll, looking forward to hear more.
Well if I have to pick
Well if I have to pick between mom and dad... I'd have to pick small strobes for their portability, and if you need more power you can just go McNally style.
sb 900
I've fallen in love with the sb900s. That has to be the best general purpose light - powerful, small, long battery life, lots of functions, and just fun to use.
LEDs!
LED's rock!! But, I see strobes seem to be the most popular in the poll... guess well all love strobes (unless you're epileptic!).
