Using DIY Air Cannons To Create An Explosion

Compressed air cannons are lots of fun for launching paper rockets. Turns out they are also pretty useful for indie films. What? Why would an indie film director want to launch a paper rocket? Actually, the compressed air can be used to throw a small pile of debris, creating a small "explosion" for an action sequence.

The awesome guys over at Realm Pictures came up with a great film that shows the entire setup for creating such an explosion, including the mentioned cannon.

They are also trying to fund their ambitions underwater indie film via kick starters, and share the plans for this cannon and a bunch of other cool film DIYs with backers (including the waterproof LED strip light we featured a while back), so give them a call on their Kickstarters page.

Thanks for the tip Rich

DIY Air canons

you can also use air canons to create REAL fireballs.... no explosives required...

don not try at home, don't sue me disclaimers applied here..

but cornstarch and or flour with both create a big fireball if ignited after being dispersed through an air canon.. safer than gasoline, it won't burn on any surfaces it lands on, only when dispesred in air... easy to clean up after...

sorry to be the grammar nazi

sorry to be the grammar nazi this time... but it's caNNon, with two Ns.

unless you have compressed air canon cameras around ;)

you're insensitive to people with dyslexia.

it isn't like I was giving bad advice like recommending you check if the thing was loaded by looking down the barrel and pulling the trigger...

enjoy the content, if spellin bothers you, go spellcheck yourself!

Hi Don,

I actually think Marcello was referring to my title :) I love it when folks correct my English. It helps me see how not smart is word's spell checker, and as an English Second Language it helps me get closer to getting all those darn nuances.

there ought to be a spell check browser add on for spelling nazi's, to auyo correct on downloading a page... it never ceases to amaze me how often a good or valid point get lost in a thread when the spelling nazi's go on the blitz-krieg..

I say if the speeling thows out the meaning of the content then by all means, ask for clarification... but otherwise let the content matter... spell checkers and that f#$%#$king auto correct is more agrrivating, for dyslexics then the spelling errors IMHO...

re:

<a href="http://www.skilch.com/nfo/explosion">explosion</a> is the terminal forced
release of pressure built up during the occlusive phase of a stop consonant. For more
