PanoDuino Is The Most Awesomest 360 DIY Pano Head (Yes, Arduino Is Involved)

Texas based photographer Phil Warner was looking for the perfect robotic pano head. He did not find one so he made his own.

Phil runs 360photopro which kinda explains his need for a pano head. It does not, however, explain the beauty of the head he built. Click to continue ›

This Photobooth That Looks Like Instagram Is Just As Trendy

Photographer Alexander Morris wanted to add a photobooth as a fun addition to events.

While the pictures and long-lasting-memories that a photobooth creates are important, the looks of the booth are crucial to attract visitors to take photos. Alex did a spectacular job on the design side, without sacrificing any quality.

Here are some of the booth's highlights: (yes, you can build one yourself if you follow closely). Click to continue ›

Make A Camera Weather Protector From A CD Case

Most weather protection mods completely seal of the body and lens of the camera using Nylon (or some sort of nylon, at least). A very common hack is to use a UV filter as a front element for the lens and cover the rest with a bag.

The problem there is that drop on the lens cover may interfere with the shot. The folks at Digital Camera World came up with a different solution that uses a CD spindle for lens protection.

While this solution is not 100% tight, it looks like for non windy weather it provides good protection while removing the risk of drops on the lens of filter. (Yes, it also uses a nylon bag, I guess there is no way around this one).

If you want a more refined solution, you can buy similar "dedicated" bags for about $6-$8 in B&H.

The only question now (2013) is where the heck does one find an empty CD case spindle?

How To Build A Teleprompter + Tips

Griffin Hammond over at Indy Mogul has a great video about how to build a $35 DIY teleprompter. That is pretty awesome compared to the cheapest one I found on B&H which was $449.

How To Build A Teleprompter + Tips

For anyone who's wondering what a teleprompter is, it is a device that allows you to read text while looking directly at the lens. It is made with beam splitter glass positioned at 45° with a camera behind it and running text below it. The beam splitter does not block the camera from seeing as you look at it, while reflecting text that you can read. It is all explained in the movie after the break. Click to continue ›

How To Make A Fashionable DIY Camera Bag

I recently purchased a new camera, which has quickly become one of the many loves of my life! It is my first DSLR camera - Canon Rebel T2i.

Rigwheels Is The Mother Of All DIY Dollies

Many of the video hacks we share are about dollies and sliders. It is not surprising as both make a huge impact on production value.

Most of the wheeled sliders we featured are using aligned skating wheels for smooth movement. This makes sense as they come with bearings and provide smooth motion. The only down side here is that the smooth movement is limited to the length of smooth surface you have.

Enter RigWheels. RigWheels is somewhat of a DIY product, but also somewhat of a high-end product, mostly depending on how you use it.

Photography From The Future: Will We Be Printing Our Own Cameras?

3D printing is making huge leaps in the last few years. The idea of 3D printing has changed and evolved from being a (relatively) rapid prototyping tool to being a small home fabrication unit.

Photography From The Future: Will We Be Printing Our Own Cameras?

Operating a 3D printed is easier now than ever, materials are cheaper and even the printers themselves are now around the $1,500 mark (Up, Makergear and the good ol' Replicator are two good examples).

This got me thinking, will we be printing our own camera and camera accessories in the near future? Click to continue ›

Make A Water Resistant Camo Sleeve For The Canon 100-400L

Rob Gipman submitted this great hack to our Flickr pool. It is a water resistant protective sleeve for the Canon 100-400L lens.

What makes this lens ideal for sleeve protection (aside than the $1459 price tag) is the fact that this lens zooms by retraction rather than by rotation Click to continue ›

Phhhoto Is An Animated Gif Creating Halo Spreding Photo Booth

When people talk about photobooth, I usually think about an old school, van-sized box with a curtain and a few slots. The folks at HYPERHYPER have a completely different view on the subject. It is innovative in every single way.
