D3A - 1st Place Winner

d3a

OK, so it is time for announcing the final winner of the D3A contest.

Drum roll please!

It was not easy narrowing the final 15. Some of persons and photogs that gave me feedback on the finalists had a thing or two to say about my taste. However this one was in consensus. Both for DIYing and for superb execution.

D3A - 2nd Place Winner

d3a

So tomorrow the 1st place winner will be announced. Man I'm excited. Just before I go through the final two winners, I'd like to discuss the selection process a bit.

It was not easy to select 15 images out of more than 10,000. In fact one may think it is impossible.

Here is how it went. Initially I went through the "pool posts" and the last few month's pool submissions to select about 120 images that I loved. Click to continue ›

D3A - 3rd Place Winner

d3a

There are images you see and immediately fall in love with. This was the case with this one. It was selected for the pool a while back since it is a bit different from all the sound trigger images we usually see.

Let me quote some of the comments you had on this one:

"wow"

"wow"

"cool"

"wow"

Ok, you get the point.

D3A - 4th Place Winner

d3aThis is something that always amazes me. How a photograph can change even the simplest of every day objects.

An image of a simple object done well can ignite several threads on the viewer's mind. Things that can range from "What is this?" / "Is this what I think it is?", through "That's an interesting take on life" and for us photographers sometimes even "Darn! I see this everyday, I wish I'd thought about this before" "Man, That totally original! Chapeau!"

D3A - 5th Place Winner

d3aMC Escher must be rolling with joy at the sight of his followers experiment around the globe.

I fell in love with this one as soon as I saw it. Just goes to show that sometimes the simple stuff is the best. The great comments this image receive could only be rivaled by the pinch you felt when discovering it was partially fake. Here is what you had to say:

"Fake? FAKE??!!! Does the front page of
Explore know this? ;-)
"

"FAKE!?!?!?!?! what??? just kidding"

D3A - Prize #5

d3aThis is the last prize announcement of the DIYPhotography 3rd Anniversary (D3A) Contest.

I know many readers of this blog are strobists by heart, and would never use a flash bigger than a shoe sized 11.

Many do this because they want to keep portable, spontaneous, not give up the ability to shot outdoors. This is your chance to explore something new.  Read more to find out what Tronix are adding to the mix of cool prizes. Click to continue ›

D3A - Prize #4

d3aAs you may know, I really dig the creative minds over at Lensbaby. They are right on the mark when it comes to adding some creativity in your images. All you have to do is to let go on all those fancy multi-matrix-focus-technology, and you gain access to instant tap of creativity. This is why I was so glad when the nice people of Lensbaby decided to join as sponsors for D3A. Read more after the jump. Click to continue ›

D3A - Oh My God - There Is More

d3aThere definitely is.

Just before I share the cool prize #3 - that will let you freeze time, a quick update on D3A rules. As advised by Addie, I am changing the prizes-to-winners algorithm. The general Idea is that every winner will select their own prize in descending order. That means that the first place winner will get first selection, second winner will go next and so on.

The motivation for this is doubled. The first motivation is that winners will not get a prize they already own. The second motivation is that hey! You win - you get to pick! Maybe you like the "second place" prize more then the "first", or maybe you don't need one of the prizes. Read the full change over at the rules page. Click to continue ›
