Take Long Distance Self Portraits With PocketWizards
This self portrait on the left by Reuben Krabbe was taken (believe it or not) by Reuben Krabbe. Now, I know that you know that time/space fabric will tear if a person is present at two different places in the same time.
So, once we remove the impossible option we remain with the possible option - Pocket Wizards.
Everybody knows that PWs can be used to trigger a remove flash, it is a bit less common knowledge that PWs can also be used to trigger a camera.
Once you know how to trigger your camera remotely you are half done. Two minor issues: popping a PW is not that easy while riding mountain bikes, and PWs are so packed with goodness too big so they show on the pic.
Reuben had an ingenious solution. Using a hack similar to the cactus cable hack he made a small cable with a small push button that is both easy to operate and is tiny enough to disappear in the picture.
The thing I like best about this solution is the fact that if you want to, you can also add a strobe just outside the frame with very minimal setup changes. (Another PW on the camera itself, or a PW multimax). The PWs will take care of syncing your camera and your strobe.

I got a $25 radio remote. A lot cheaper than a pocket wizard and has a range of over 50 metres.

Can you share the model and brand name?

cheap wireless triggers
I use the triggers by www.phottix.com. I have found them about 95% reliable at under 20 metres and they are cheap enough that you can use them outdoors or in situations where you might trash your gear.
Thanks for sharing such nice
Thanks for sharing such nice information on pocket wizards. I like this site as it is very interesting blog theme here. It is nice to visit this site.
PreTrigger release cable.
Instead of buying an expensive pocket wizard pre-trigger release cable, get one of these.

There is a microjack plug on the side. You can buy a length of Mono Microjack cable at radioshack with a microjack to minijack converter, and plug that into the wizard. For $20 you now have a cable release and a pre-trigger release cable.
Wireless Shutter trigger for < $20
I have both an IR remote (Nikon, $25) and a cheap eBay wireless shutter trigger.

When I bought my Nikon remote, I didn't know there were clones out there for 1/5 the price. Darn. The clone IR remotes are less than $5USD. They're a good one-piece solution, as I don't need to plug in a receiver into my Nikon D90 - it has the receiver built in. But like a TV remote, the range is only good for about 4 meters, and usually requires line-of-sight.
The wireless remotes are less than $20USD. My wireless remote has a non-line-of-sight range of over 200 feet. Pretty darn cool.
