We have seen quite a few a-photo-a-day or a-photo-a-week projects. We usually love them as they are a great way to keep inspiration coming.

We never saw a photo a month project spanning exactly nine months. Buenos Aires based photographer Sophie Starzenski accepted an advice from a friend to take on this nine-months project. She took a selfie for nine month, hiding her face and upper body, and showing the progress of her pregnancy. The project is dubbed Proyecto Pyokko.

The result is simple yet very powerful.

In case you are wondering, the baby’s name is Simón and he is happily living with photographer mom in Buenos Aires.

I really like the simple approach that probably didn’t consume much of her time. And she looks great in every single picture.

Couldn’t help staring at mummy’s bum. Oops.

Too bad she didn’t have a bit of time to do this every day. It would have made for an interesting time lapse.

It would have also told us how often she changed her underwear. ;)

I started a couple of weeks ago with a similar project. My wife is pregned and I´m taking her the same picture every 15 days.
We also live in Buenos Aires. Such a coincidence!

arrr this is so cute. Now usually I don’t like selfies but when it is like this then yer go aheads

The project evidently lasted more than nine months because that baby is not newborn. It is holding its own head up, which they can’t do until around 12 weeks. The photographer has probably ‘cheated’ here as she wouldn’t have liked her body immediately following the birth. She’s worked on getting back into shape before taking the final photo.

But what’s with the door handle?

    • Rick

It’s two different doors. The door is to her back and is only open in shots one and four. (You can see them both in the fourth shot.)

This is so cute and such a great idea! Maybe I’ll do this if I ever get pregnant :)
